Pontypool Japanware Mosaic Restoration
I spent several months in 2020/21 restoring the Pontypool mosaic mural originally made by Kenneth and Oliver Budd in 1989.
This involved painstaking removal of areas of damaged smalti and ceramic tiles, which were then remade new and replaced. The entire mural, including the concrete relief background was also cleaned.
This process preserved a beautiful mosaic, which might otherwise have been lost, as others in Budd's Gwent series have been.
