hopes

People with learning difficulties living in Somerset worked with UKDPC researcher, Rebecca Yeo. The work’s focus was summarised by Clemma Fleat and Katie Branch from Open Storytellers in Frome, ‘We face lots of barriers and obstacles. But there are many things we are happy with in our lives. We have hopes and dreams for the future.’
Participants put their ideas into drawings or photographs and worked with research artist Andrew Bolton to combine these into the mural shown on this page.

The first mural for the United Kingdom Disabled People's Council was officially opened in Victoria Park, Frome, Somerset on July 15th, 2011.
At the opening event, politicians of all levels came along with service providers, participants and the general public. People involved in creating the work explained their messages using words, music and the artwork itself.
The project will move to Norfolk in the next few weeks.
